talk your lips out with JORDANA Lip Out Loud lipgloss - 108 TTYL review and swatches

i am in the class now ....TTYL
i am shopping....TTYL
ooomygawd i just saw HIM....TTYL

we use ttyl so many times a day for any or every reason. this is one hell of an overused phrase for me . these phrases get me through the day. a few letters instead of speaking out the whole thing. a probable easy escape . so my top most used internet slang  phrases are-
1.lol.... these days i find myself lolling (is that even a word) at everything.
2.wth...... used both ways.positive and negative.
3.stfu... again both ways.
4.yolo...every time i do something silly ( just silly, not dangerous. i don't do dangerous, period)
5.stb....she's the b**ch ( a variation of s.o.b we use in college )

the people at JORDANA,USA decided to channel our love for these phrases and create amazing lip glosses. cute to the boot and in many delicious variants.. yum yum. a shiny lip lover's dream .
JORDANA lip out loud super shiny gloss... ttyl
PRICE:- $ 1.99 for 2.43 g look at that price o_O . i must be dreaming or something OR INR 249 ON FLIPKART
WHAT'S THE SCOOP:-
Lip Out Loud Super Shiny Gloss

• Fun & Flirty Colors
• Patent Leather-Like Shine
• New Slanted Soft Applicator
• Made in USA

Available in 15 Shades

INGREDIENTS:-
Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Lanolin Oil, Polyethylene, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Benzophenone-3, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Propylene Carbonate, Silica, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891). +/-May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Mica (CI 77019), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Red 22 Lake (CI 45380), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985).

THE PACKAGING:-
a standard cylindrical tube with a shiny slant cut cap. the packaging is sturdy and leak proof. looks cute too.
now people take a moment to admire the beauty and functionality of that wand..... JORDANA people have nailed it. kudos !
its long and tapering at the end. it slightly bends and flattens at the side you apply on the lips. this ensures precise application and even dispersal of the shimmer... more on that later
bigger brands ! are you listening ? you need to upgrade all your old fashioned gloss applicators to this one . its da bomb :)

THE SHADE:-
its a pretty rosy peachy shade with ample gold shimmer running through it . it warms up the lips nicely. it also plays good with my dead mauve natural lip tone and manages to disguise the natural ghostliness. the way i use is with a real dramatic eye or for a casual day time look . i like it in the centre of the lips with a dramatic vampy red or berry lip. the perfect pouty ombre in my opinion.
the under laying sheerness makes it perfect for layering,IMHO.

shimma shimma like a disco ball

THE FORMULA:-
at the price point, i wasn't really expecting something to write home about. but as a gloss hating girl , i find myself doing a double take. its actually good, fantastic. its nicely thick and hydrating . emollient but not so much as goopy and will make talking weird type. neither is it plasticky and makes me you want to tear your lips ( lakme aquashines or whatever nonsense lakme put out a few years ago).it applies smoothly with even dispersion of shimmer and the colour. the staying time is decent lasts up to 5 hours with no eating and drinking and 2 hours with eating. since its a light shade we needn't worry much about transfer. also despite being light and shimmery it doesn't bunch up and move around. thumbs up for that.
ITS SMELLS AND TASTES EXACTLY LIKE WATERMELON...ain't that cool!

except the bottom right all swatches are in flash
PROS:-
  1. subtle peachy tint suitable for daytime office wear and nigh time drama makeup
  2. inexpensive
  3. easily available in India these days
  4. nice taste and smell
  5. good,even shimmer dispersal
  6. fantastic applicator, i m saving it even after the gloss's gone
  7. hydrating and non drying
  8. decent wear time
  9. good for layering over your fave lipsticks
  10. spill proof packaging
  11. not tested on animals
CONS:-
  1. none for me , but i can see the smell and taste bothering sensitive people
RATING:- 5/5 ... A  rare score for me but this product deserves it :)

do you like glosses ? what are your favourite ones?
i am in love with internet slangs ... like em or loathe em ?

much love,
vj

lets go graphic with colour for summer feat. maybelline and nyx

hey everyone ,
summers are the perfect time with your look , your hair , your wardrobe and even your makeup. after playing cool and conservative all year long( for some of us ). this is the time to let our hair down and wear whatever we want. and those who wanna judge , go ahead! we don't care a hoot .

http://i.beautylish.co/DpaWmL-EQMRV9LZ6VWCLuQK8BE0/tlw-83/ill-wear-as-much-makeup-as-i-want.jpg
so the following look is a result of a magpie ( me ) who loves all things shiny and colourful ( makeup) and had ( once upon a long time ago,  alot of time on her hands.......... aah the great days ). what better way to beat the ennui than try a new technique .... i m sorry but you have to see my boring old mug again :(

so lets start

1. apply your favourite concealer of choice and primer. what i like to do is , use a concealer and apply powder on top of the upper and lower lid, especially as my oily lids are prone to creasing.

2.tape the sides of your eyes to get a precise shape . place the tape along your lower lash line and upwards , just the way you would do for a cat eyeliner . ensure that both the sides are equal or you will end up with wonky eye makeup and no one wants to look cray cray ! place loose powder underneath the eyes to catch fallout.

tip:- before sticking the tape right to your lids , stick it and remove it from a surface a few times to loosen the glue. this will ensure that the delicate under eye area isn't harmed.

3. roughly draw the shape you want want with a black eyeliner pencil. i was going for a feline eye shape here . it doesn't have to be precise. we can sharpen it later. this will serve as a guideline for what is going to come next.

3. fill in the shape you have created . i chose a black gel eyeliner as it doesnt crease easily and eyeshadows adhere better to gel than pencil eyeliner.

4. wet your brush slightly and dip into pigment or eyeshadow of yoyur cghoce. tap it gently againt the container to avoid fall out . now carefully place it over the areas covered by the black eyeliner . dont cross the shape created and cover all the areas, leaving no gaps.

5.take a contrasting colour pigment/eyeshadow and using the same wet brush technique place it around the inner and outer corner. using an angled brush makes this much much easier. blend both the colours into each other slightly at the point they meet.

6. finish the look up by removing your tape. applying teeny tiny bit of blue eyeliner on the lower lashline. notyhing too dramatic (yup thats me saying it...) .line your upper lash line with black eyeliner. i went a bit fancy and drew some dots ( thats all i can do ).curl your lashes and apply mascara . to polish up the look a bit do your brows by filling them up and setting them in place . and YOU ARE DONE!!!!!

7. a peachy coral blush and peachy pink lips later you are all set to take over the wrold( or like me cook yourself a bowl of maggi and sit watching reruns of THE BIG BANG THEORY ...yayyyy love my (not so)social life ....).

vellvette box - april 2013

hello everyone,
after posting about my last vellvette box , i somehow took a break from it . however i soon missed it and decided to subscribe again.and this time its a three month subscription . YAYY FOR ME
just an heads up my first post was a ballad to the greatness of the vellvette box.so lets see does this one float the boat and make it sail or the boat plain sinks..................

pretty box , pretty ribbon -even the ribbon has a spring theme to it .... :D
this times box has a sort of spring theme to it . as they say this box is to put a spring in our steps.... sadly they   are mistaken . its blazing, makeup melting, brain boiling summer in mumbai . aah! lets just leave that to that because that rant can go on and on ..... as much as i love my city , this is one thing i cannot absolutely bear  ...pssshh

big bad dent in my box....o_0,
whats in my box:-
i had really high expectations from this box . when i placed my order , they were currently running a contest that some 200 subscribers would get LUSH aqua marina cleanser . i didn't get in my box . may be some other "bloggers" did win . this was disappointment number one. its like meh . i didn't win so what ? i never do right ? no point being a sour puss >.<

  • Figs and Rouge Aloe and Mint balm:- (full size - inr 695)
aloe great . mint .... umm not so great . not a fan of anything that smells or tastes minty . in lip products i can bear . not in something that i m going to put on my body.(not that the poor guys at vellvette could have known this. there was no column for fragrance of products in preferences ;) )
its exactly like a balm .at room temperature , has a more ghee like consistency.it tingles a bit on the lips. offers clear shine . i also use it on elbows, knees and ankles at night and find them softened in the morning.
haven't used on my brows, feet etc yet , as mentioned in the card.
a very good product but not my favourite flavour.

who loves vintage tin packaging....me me me !
  • THE NATURE'S CO Spearmint Body Wash:-(sample size -35ml, full size-485)
this one's perfect for the Indian summers. after all an Indian company, that too one manufacturing pure vegetarian products.... happy vegetarian dance !!!!!!!!. its a great basic body wash . lathers well, get cleaned in less water , has a pleasant tingly feeling after you apply it. the tingly sensation last for a while after the shower. decent sized bottle . easily you can get about 10 uses out of it . perfect for travel.

didn't get the atmospure part ..... we usually associate green with murkiness... maybe purity for the people at the nature's co.

now the only drawback. the scent . the spearmint scent . brings back memories of chewing Wrigley's spearmint chewing gum for hours together. but i cant tolerate . no mint for me please. mint , spearmint or any other mint.thank you but no thank you .
this has been promptly snagged by my twerp little sister . she loves it . cant stop sniffing it.

verdant lush green depths of spearminty goodness

whats inside all that gleaming metal??????
  • MOTIVES Mardi Gras palette (full size - inr 3050)
whoa.... hold it right there , 3050 inr you say . that too in a sample subscription that is just paid 399 inr for? ( okay even lesser because of the 3 month subscription discount...hehehe) now coming to what this palette has.
  • three shadows- a forest green with shimmer., satin finish. the only good performing colour from the eyeshadow category.next is a golden peach . matte finish . doesn't show up very well on my complexion. very sheer. lastly, a violet-purply whateveryoucallit.. a very hard. worst performing shade. doesn't want to budge out from its palette. as you can see below ,the swatches are very very sheer. i cant perceive how to make these shades work *mind freaked*

without flash

  • 6 lipcolors- its technically 3 lip glosses and 3 lipsticks . but the lipcolours themselves are so confused because of their nature that they themselves don't know what are they . plus no card explaining what id what.my love is the 2 nd pan from left in the 2nd pot. the bright coral . rest i don't care for. the deep violet gloss(lets assume its a gloss) was mistaken to be a cream eye liner . duh ! i know right . i had to swatch it to confirm. who anyways wears sheer violet gloss. i don't.

with flash

with flash

without flash

without flash

loads of cards ....new bookmarks wheeeee!!!!!!!!
so overall this was an average box. nothing stood out really. i would have loved to get something from max factor or skincare from the nature's co. anyways , grass is always greener on the other side(purple on ours....hehehe)

take care,
vj

p.s:- anyone saw ek thi daayan? worth a dekko for sure. the cinematography , the storyline , the acting.... everything grips you even much later after the end stills roll in !!!!!!!!

AVON onyx luster tri-eyeshadow in midnight luster

i can see the season coming,
of all things shiny and sparkly!
i can see the season coming,
of all things bright and merry !
i can see the season coming,
of the beautiful DIWALI!

OK OK OK  no one looks cross-eyed at me . not my fault . i just love this festival so much that i could post even a video of me doing an impromptu jig(which would scare away the very few readers i have ) . the poetry itself is pathetic , i realise that . kiddie poetry not my thing . adult poetry totally my thing. so the video would have been overkill .
i digress ( so predictable of me ). Diwali means parties , meeting people and all the showsha we Indians are well known for .it also means dressing up . dressing up bright , bold and blingy (oooo i just alliterated ... hehe grammar freak ). not everyone likes blingy so for those who dont let me present to u a product that's shimmery enough but still classy for elegant and charismatic eyes for the festival season .

AVON onyx luster tri-eyeshadow in midnight luster

price:-  399/- inr but since i purchased it a while back it set me back by 299/- that is almost 100/- inr for each shadow.
net weight:- 2.8 g or 0.10oz
expiry date:- 30 months from manufacturing date .

WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY 'BOUT IT:-
Black goes luminous with a pearly glow. Shine the light on your dark side. Silky smooth powder. Stay-true color. Mirror compact with built-in drawer for applicator.

PACKAGING:-
it comes in a sleek black rectangular black box with a shiny finish. it has two compartments- the one you see on opening holds the 3 shadows closely packed together without any individual pans.the lower compartment is almost hidden and slides out . it holds two sponge tipped applicators but i have lost one of them . the lid also has a clear , good but small mirror  the lid closes with a snap and overall the packaging is sturdy. the box does have a tendency to hold fingerprints and gets scratches easily if you are too clumsy ( like me ;-p) as you can see from the pictures.the applicators are good for applying shadows to the inner corners and on the lower lashline.

natural lighting

MY FEW PENNIES:-
the trio consists of a nude peach shade with a golden sheen to it , a basic black with some teeny tiny glitter particles and an almost matte brown.none of the shades have any names or descriptions even on the site so please bear with me as i try ( struggle) to explain the shades.

with flash
  1. the first shade is a beautiful peachy shimmery nude shade . i can see this shade working on a wide range of complexions and different undertones without looking orange-y.its a perfect all over the lid shade.it goes on a bit sheer but can be built upto desired intensity without going patchy and streaky. its one of those shades that you just put on your lids , throw some eyeliner and mascara on and you are done ! TA-DAH . as easy as that . no more squirmy people egging you to get ready soon. it also is the perfect base shade for my medium dark skin tone to put other eyeshadows over without them getting too muddy.it works perfect as a shimmery browbone and inner corner highlight for darker , warmer skin tones. with a sparing hand/applicator/brush even lighter skin toned people can make it work . i am all for shimmery highlighters during this season.
  2. the second shade is a matte black with some Lil silver glitter . the glitter doesn't get picked up by the brush hence doesn't even get translated onto the eyes. so no love lost there. this black means business . its intensely black no grey or brown undertones here. its very pigmented hence can be easily overdone. a light hand is highly recommended. perfect shade to smoke out a look or a as a base or darker eyeshadows for an dark , vampy look. i often use it as a upper lash line liner for a soft , smudged yet elegant effect. since the glitters dont translate onto the eye, i safely use it at my lower waterline to set my kohl there.TIP OF THE DAY:-often with whatever is left on my brush after applying BLACK to the lid , i brush it lightly through my brows ( lightly being the key word here ). it slightly defines my brows without me having to reach for a brow product.
  3. the third shade is a matte chocolate brown with a sheen to it . let just say that this shade is a let down and leave it to that. its dry, stiff, doesn't get picked up brushes, fingers or applicators. when it does you literally have to jab at the pan to get some of the product to loosen up . still it stays stuck there like a petulant child while you leave it there and go find another shade to put through your crease, brows or for contouring.after a million efforts you manage to put it on your eyes and get it show up , it doesn't just want to blend. it either vanishes into thin thin air or just turns muddy, making your overall look go awry .as you can see in the swatches this one is a bad penny. and bad pennies have a way of turning up even though no one wants them.this is like wasting 100 inr of your hard earned, stolen, borrowed etc ( hehehe..) money on a really pathetic product and this affects the rating of the overall trio adversely.

single swipe swatches in order of the trio
STAYING POWER:-
the overall staying power of the palette is decent if you ignore the brown ( which is like 1/3rd of the palette). it stays on for 3 to 4 hours before starting to crease slightly on my semi oily lids.if a proper base like a primer or a concealer set with powder is used , it lasts good for around five hours before fading around the edges.
IN ACTION:-
see the pics below to see the trio in action .
apart from the trio i have used l'oreal gel eyeliner in black on upper lashline and lower waterline and faces lengthening mascara.
the peach nude shade is from the upper lash line to the browbone and in the inner corner. the chocolate brown (with difficulty....i doubt you can see it) through the crease. black in the outer corner , blended well and outer 2/3rds of the lower lashline.
with blurred focus and flash to show the shimmery nature of the eyeshadows
i haven't used  a base for the eotd so you can see the true intensity of the shadows.
notice the inner corner highlight? pretty... eh?
no flash - yellow bathroom lighting
DO I LIKE IT:- yes . i do . smooth , blendable easy to work shades for work as well as night out wear.

WILL I REPURCHASE IT:- HELL NO. i cant see 100 inr go down the gutter for a bad eyeshadow . despite the trio having two beautiful easy to work shades i wont buy this trio again. i have enough neutrals to last me a lifetime (....no no maybe a year or so.... i ' m so damn sure that i will buy something before this year ends :-D).

WILL I RECOMMEND IT:- yes to beginners who are feeling their way into the world of makeup. and also to those who love quick, easy , neutral looks.

RATING:- 3/5 . ( 1 deducted for the bum shade and the other for being available only through avon representatives and for being slightly overpriced for its quality).

what are your favorite nude, neutral eyeshadows to wear? have your tried this trio or any other eyeshadows by avon?do you like neutrals? let me know what blush and lip colour will you pair with an eyeshadow like this in comments below.

until next time....stay tuned more to come.

love,
vj
